Radek Karkys is a Prague-based cameraman and photographer specializing in wildlife, documentary and commercial productions. His journey into filmmaking began around 25 years ago, when he and his friends were sharing a single VHS tape of a skateboarding film. Inspired to create something of their own, they decided to make their first film together. What started with extreme sports gradually developed into a career in commercial and documentary filmmaking.
In 2020, Radek turned his attention to wildlife photography, driven by a personal ambition to observe and photograph wolves in their natural habitat. It took three and a half years of dedication before he finally achieved that goal. His wildlife photography has since earned several distinctions at the Czech Nature Photo Awards, including first place in the Mammals category and second place in Nature of Prague in 2024, as well as an award for Best Photo Series in 2023. His professional work also includes serving as director of photography for Asia Express Czech Republic (2026) and as director, cinematographer and editor of the documentary Kongo Cena Slona (2025).
Radek describes his creative approach as choosing paths that others have yet to explore. Whether filming extreme sports, developing his own approach to social media or pursuing wildlife photography, he has always been motivated by doing things differently. Inspired by life itself, he continues to seek new perspectives and creative challenges. One of his biggest ambitions is to produce a documentary film about wolves, bringing together his passion for wildlife and storytelling.
His advice to aspiring photographers and filmmakers is to focus on the enjoyment of creating rather than financial success. He believes that pursuing personal projects out of genuine passion is the key to developing an individual creative voice and growing as an artist. For his work, a camera and lens are his most essential tools, carried in bags from F-Stop.
