Tamron 50-400mm f/4.5-6.3 review

by Norwegian ambassador Iver Paulsberg

For the past couple of months I have been lucky enough to get to try out the Tamron 50-400mm F/4.5-6.3.

With little to no experience shooting telephoto images I just couldn’t say no to this opportunity when Focus Nordic called me and asked me if this was something I was willing to try out. To try unfamiliar things is the best way of learning, and what better way was it, then to say YES and head out into the unknown!

The lens itself is super versatile with a huge rage like no other! The question is, will this add to my photography and help me create depth to my storytelling?

The lens itself is quite compact and not too heavy. I did though experience some difficulties shooting handheld photos with it as it is quite hard to hold the lens completely steady. That being said, if the light is good and you have a high enough shutter speed, then this lens delivers nice and sharp photos at any range.

Even though this lens is 6.3 all the way zoomed in, it delivers some nice background blur to your object. The focus between infinitive and your closeup object is also fast and has no issues getting the focus just right.

The answer to that question is a definite yes! I have discovered a new world of options and opportunities which has opened my eyes and brought a new level of creativity to my mind. This is something I am truly happy about as you often get caught up in similar patterns as a photographer doing what you know over and over again. Now I have the opportunity of testing out a normal range and then quickly jump to a super long range if an idea pops into mind.
